On March 6, local boutique Carnaby Street Style in Kent, Ohio, hosted a Girls' Night Out, entitled “Power of the Skirt” in order to raise funds for African Sky’s Women’s Literacy Project. The event was an intimate affair of over twenty ladies who attended in order to learn more about African Sky. Helen McKee, boutique owner, along with the assistance of her granddaughters Jacquelyn Brown and Rachel Prior, hosted the event to promote awareness of African Sky’s involvement in women’s education in Mali.

African Sky member Christine Lacy provided an informative presentation on the history of African’s Sky facilitation of women’s empowerment and literacy in Mali. This fostered camaraderie with the women in attendance that eagerly wanted to assist the Literacy Project and their female counterparts in Mali. The presentation highlighted the individual ability to change a woman’s life through their contribution. This donation would go directly towards funding a woman’s education, while providing enough seed money to assist a project and cultivate leadership in the community. Christine Lacy stated, “women really identify with this idea of empowering women to do business and be a leader in the community,” Lacy said.
