African Sky Kenya

By Caleb Mooty and Steve Feldman
In 2010, African Sky gave us the opportunity to spread the reach of the organization to eastern Africa through a friendship we developed as students at Emory University. We traveled to the village of Seme in rural western Kenya to volunteer at a local high school. Through teaching and living in the village, we developed lasting relationships with our fellow teachers, students and neighbors. Through these bonds, we seek to improve educational opportunities to help break the cycle of poverty in the area.

Our fieldwork included teaching classes and leading extracurricular activities at St. Peter's Kajulu Secondary School, hosting the Osiepe Soccer Cup, and leading a library program at Awanya Primary School. Currently, we are running a university scholarship program for meritorious high school graduates from the Seme area.
